The Symposium "Interaction Between the Immune System and Nanomaterials: Safety and Medical Exploitation" aims at discussing the features of the complex interaction between engineered nanomaterials and the immune system. This will be considered from the point of view of safety (risk for human health and the environment) as well as of the possibility of exploiting the nanomaterial characteristics for novel effective therapeutic approaches. The Symposium will encompass the following sessions: Nano-immune interaction: how the encounter with nano-objects can affect immune responses; Immuno-targeting and intelligent design: exploiting nano-objects for regulating immunity; Models for assessing the impact of nano-objects on the human immune responses; Networking and Foresight. A group of international experts from Europe, Japan, Korea, and USA will approach and discuss these issues with the attendees, with particular attention to involving the younger fellows
